Good afternoon,

We are getting glimmers of spring... how I long for the smell of the fresh air!

We are starting the second book in Superkids.  I've posted the new backpack pages on the PRINTABLES link on the left.  Please notice that the homework will be changing a bit... just stay tuned and check with your child.

It is imperative that everyone complies with the i-ready requirement. I checked the usage report last evening and still found people not complying.  After speaking with Sister Kathleen this afternoon, you will have time this week to  make up for your missed work last week... so if your child did not complete the necessary 30 minutes per subject last week they have this week to do 60 minutes per subject.  After that, if they still do not comply they will kept after school next Wednesday to do the work.

Saturday is the First Reconciliation for the majority of our class.  Remember, you meet us at the church on Saturday morning at 9:15 a.m.  The children have been practicing at school and should examine their conscience prior to arriving in the church on Saturday morning.

I look forward to seeing you on Saturday.

Good afternoon,

I wanted to make sure that you are all aware that the class has chosen to dress up as what they want to be when they grow up for our Theme Day on Thursday of this week.

Please note that this is a NUT award from the school - the children do not have to use one of their NUT awards to participate in this fun day.

The second grade attends the book fair on Tuesday this week. If your child is going to be purchasing books, please send the money to school in an envelope with his/her name on it.  I collect the money and hold it until we go to the book fair.  This makes it much easier to disseminate the money at the appropriate time.  Thank you for your help in this manner.

Wednesday there will be a school wide DEAR -- Drop Everything And Read event in the gymnasium.  We will all silently read for 30 minutes in the gym... you may send in a small blanket, pillow and a book for your child.

Please check Sister Kathleen's newsletter this week for the details of Catholic School Week.

I hope you are taking time to discuss the great man, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with your child. It is good for us to take time and reflect the virtues that he lived and the message that he preached.

The new backpack pages and spelling lists have been added for Unit 4.

Several of the students are telling me that they don't have time to do the reading log. They then tell me that they are doing it all on Thursday evening before it is to be handed in on Friday. I would like to take this time to remind you that there are academic benefits to nightly reading and responding. Likewise there are drawbacks to cramming in 5 nights worth of reading and responding into one night. This has led me to rethink my reading log assignment. I am working on a new, nightly reading response assignment and will let you know what I've decided upon in Early February.  Until then, please use the same reading log and please, allow your child to read and respond nightly.

I uploaded a copy of the powerpoint Sister Marie used at her parent meeting.  I hope this helps those of you who did not attend.

Please check under the Printables link.

Happy New Year!

I wanted to reach out to you and remind you to be aware of Sister Marie's emails to you regarding the upcoming sacramental preparations.  As noted at Back to School Night - Sister Marie coordinates all of the sacramental meetings, practices and events.  She uses the email that is on file with the office.   I take this time to remind you that the First Penance is on Saturday February 25, 2017 at 9:30.  First Communion is Saturday May 6, 2017 at 9:30.

The children will learn how to make their Penance in class... you will notice that we are learning about the Ten Commandments in Chapter 9.  This will lead into knowing and understanding the choices we make - good - bad and how we can be sorry and receive forgiveness for bad choices we've made.  This leads to the gift of Grace.  They will also learn the fundamentals of what to say and do while in the confessional.  Father Michael works with us weekly and will take us to the confessional before hand so that all are comfortable with the experience.  He does a wonderful job with the children; they eagerly await his weekly visits.

I also want to remind you that I placed the parent helper pages for math Module 3 on the "printables" link on this web page.

The spelling test  has been postponed until Thursday January 12th.  There will not be any new words introduced on Monday.

Good afternoon!

I uploaded an instruction sheet for a friendly letter project we are doing in class.  Please go to the "Printables" link on the left and download the Friendly Letter Instructions page.  Read and follow directions!

Thank you!  I was having trouble printing it in school today - I appreciate your help in this!

Good afternoon!  I hope that you are all enjoying a prayerful Second Sunday of Advent -- Don't forget to light your nightly candles on the Advent Wreath!  This week we light 2 purple candles each night.

Thursday is the feast of the Immaculate Conception when we celebrate the saving work of God in preserving the Blessed Virgin Mary from the stain of original sin. This is a Holy Day of Obligation and the school will celebrate mass as a community at 10:00 a.m.   Students are to be in full Winter uniform - refrain from using NUT awards.  Thank you.

There are new additions to the "Printables" link.  Check them out at your convenience.

December 30th was the feast of St. Andrew.  We began praying the St. Andrew Christmas Novena.  This prayer is to be prayed 15 times each day till Christmas.  We are doing this in class each day - the children mostly know the prayer by heart... here it is for those that may forget some of the lines.

Hail and blessed be the hour and moment in which the Son of God was born of the most pure Virgin Mary, at Midnight, in Bethlehem, in the piercing cold.  In that hour, vouchsafe, Oh My God, to hear my prayer and grant my desires ( think of your petition  ) through the merits of our Savior, Jesus Christ and of his most blessed Mother. Amen.

The December calendar holds many events which require adherence to guidelines, schedules, etc. -- please monitor Sister Kathleen's weekly parent email for details.

Good Morning!

I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving!  Enjoy feasting with your families- both big and small!

During our conferences, I promised I would let you know the name of a good dictionary. Thorndike-Barnhart Junior Dictionary is a good resource.  Check the date of publication and note that a more recent publication date will have more updated "other information" -- for example the list of president names, etc...

I also want to make sure everyone knows that the children must now be going onto i-Ready.com at home and complete 30 minutes each week of Reading lessons and 30 minutes each week of Math lessons.

Good evening!

The homework page is updated with the social studies -- community information.  I tried, unsuccessfully, to update after school.  The website gave me a hard time updating... I apologize.
