I hope that you all enjoyed a reflective day yesterday in observance of Veteran's Day.

I want to remind you that Thursday and Friday are half days of school for your children.  Thursday evening and Friday afternoon are Parent-Teacher Conferences.  Please remember that this is a brief, 10 minute conference.  I respect all of you and the time you are taking from your busy schedule to meet with me and I know that you all respect my time and effort to meet with all of you in such a short window.  With that said, I appreciate your help in keeping me on schedule during both Thursday evening and Friday afternoon conferences.

Enjoy the beautiful weekend!

I'M SOOOO SORRY :-(

I erroneously gave out the incorrect Backpack pages for Unit 2 Week 2 and I didn't realize until today.  I apologize for any angst this caused at your homes this week.

I'll double check my entry this week!

Blessings to all.

Hello drama club parents below is a list of props that we will need for the show. Before I go out and buy any of the props I wanted to see if any parents had any of these items laying around the house and could let us borrow them until the end of the show. What's needed: - Sponges or rags - An older looking bike - Tin Garbage can - Empty Boxes - Christmas Rapping Paper - Christmas tree

Good Afternoon,

it was sad that it rained on our Walk-a-thon Day... even sadder was driving to school today -- there are SIGNIFICANTLY less leaves on the trees after these stormy few days.  I certainly enjoy seeing God's glory blazing the hillsides in Dutchess County each Autumn.  It always reminds me to stop and take a moment to say Thank You for my many blessings.

The homework page indicates that there will be a vocabulary test on Thursday on words we've discussed during the reading of the Frog and Toad Together stories. It is a comprehension/vocabulary test in nature.  The children will have to interpret and show that they understand words and how they were used in the context of our story as well as sometimes simply giving or identifying the meaning of a word.

We've completed chapter 3 in religion; the test will be on Wednesday.  They should have taken their books home today to begin studying.

Don't forget library books on Wednesday... There are a few children who owe fines to Sister Lucia.  If they returned it late they still need to pay the fine.

We are on Unit 2 Week 2 for spelling and Backpack pages!

Good afternoon!

I hope you all enjoyed an Autumnal weekend!  What beauty surrounds us this time of year... make sure you are mindful of God's great glory before the stark, cold of winter sets in....

Friday is Walk-a-Thon Day!  The children are excited, as am I.  We will be WALKING!  I hope the day proves to be one of God's greatest.  I look forward to seeing all of you who are able to walk with us.

If you are a "regular" website visitor, you will notice a new sub page on the HOMEWORK tab of my webpage.  The sup page is a Parent Guide to the new math program we are implementing at school.  I recently found these pages online and wanted to share them with you as soon as possible.  We completed Module 1 and are on Module 2.  Today we took a step back and reviewed some of the key concepts in Module 1.  Their homework is in their notebook.  They copied 4 problems from the board.  I hope these guides help you,  help them.  I SO APPRECIATE YOUR PATIENCE as we navigate our way through.  I am not interested in rushing them.  I'm looking for them to experience success.  It is happening.

A note also went home with the children from our Room Moms, Mrs. Craft and Mrs. Sulca.  I welcome them as our Room Moms and look forward to a wonderful year ahead.

As always, GBWY.

Good evening!

Today is the 99th anniversary of the 6th Apparition of Our Lady of the Rosary in Fatima, Portugal. Tonight I devote my Rosary to all my students past and present.  I wish that they pray the Rosary each day of their lives and experience the joy of Jesus in their hearts, always!

Parents, I know that the "new" math is challenging for all of us.  If your child has trouble with the homework, please tell them to let me know in class and I will help them.  I want them to feel and be successful.  We will persevere and get through it.

We have the Walk-a-thon next Friday.  I look forward to a beautiful autumn day walking with my students.  I know, in the past, many parents come out and cheer us on.  I hope that many of you can attend and cheer us on as we walk the laps around our school grounds.  Pray for that beautiful autumn day!

Good Afternoon!

I hope that you are all enjoying the cooler air!  I LOVE it!

This week we've been working so hard in Second Grade!  It is nice to have our new math books!  The children and I are working on establishing our new Math routine and getting to know the ins and outs of the program.  Thank you for your patience.  It is beginning to work! You will notice that there are daily " PROBLEM SET' and "HOMEWORK" pages.  The Problem Set pages are done in class.  If you peruse these pages you should be able to see the procedure that your child must use when completing the homework.  Please make sure they follow the procedure -- this is the way they will be tested.  If they only know "your way" they may not fulfill the requirements of the assessments.

Thank you... THANK YOU... for your cooperation!

I made the "executive decision" today to postpone our spelling test on Unit 1 Week 4 words till next Friday, October 14, 2016.  We simply aren't done with the corresponding work in class since we had no school on Monday, Tomorrow is a half day -- and we'll be attending Mass -- and Monday is no school again.  I don't like to test when adequate time has not been spent in class.  I hope you understand this.

Your child has been working on an Autobiography during our writing lessons.  They handed in their drafts today with their editing and revising.  They will work on Publishing next week -- They are quite eager to complete this fun assignment!  I too, am eager to read their work!

I've noticed some hard work on the Reading Logs.  Please make sure that your child starts each entry with one of the "Starter Sentences" on the top of the page. I've instructed the children to write at least two sentences.  They must also be cognizant of their spelling and handwriting.  All of these will be considered during the grading process.

I appreciate all of you parents who are "doing your homework" by signing all homework.  I encourage all children to ask their parent to sign homework.  I also require them to be responsible and put everything they need back into the backpack each night.

An observation:  Some of the supply boxes have become untidy and/or are missing supplies.  Please help your child be prepared each day for class with at least 5 sharpened pencils, crayons,  6 inch ruler, eraser, glue stick, scissors, pencil grip.... I may be forgetting something...  Thank you!

When the "RED" folder comes home, please sign the items on the "SIGN AND RETURN" side and send them back to school.  Keep all papers on the 'KEEP AT HOME" side.  Your diligence will help me keep organized -- THANK YOU!

... I feel like I've forgotten something.... but I'll end for now.  I can't say it enough, THANK YOU... for all you do to help me be the best that I can be!

GBWY -- always!

Good evening!

I wanted to let you know that I've made a change to the way I post the homework. I'm hoping this is convenient for you.  It actually makes it easier for me.  Could it be a Win-Win situation!  I hope so!

You'll notice that I've changed the Religion test to Thursday. I've also taken the math test off the table for this week.  I have been reviewing these new procedures for adding with the children and want to make sure all are comfortable with this new method.  I know it is different for all of us who know the "old math", but we want to make sure the children are ready for the state assessments which begin in 3rd grade.  It is imperative that they learn these new ways now; patience and perseverance will get us there.  A few prayers wouldn't hurt!

Up coming... I will be assessing the children on the Sign of the Cross next week.  Some of the children are still using the left hand while others are crossing themselves incorrectly.  I do practice with them at school - any help at home is appreciated.  Next week I'll be taking a few children each day and asking them to make the Sign of the Cross for me.

As always, thank you for your support.

Autumn is almost upon us!

I will be teaching the Safer Spaces lesson on Monday; since I was absent for two days at the end of last week this lesson was postponed.

I posted the homework for the upcoming week. You will notice that there is a religion test scheduled for Wednesday and a math test scheduled for Friday.  I may push either or both of these tests if I feel the children are not ready. I post it for you so that you can begin to review key concepts at home. I will advise the children to take home their religion books each night. When you receive the math papers at home, from the unit we've been working on, keep them handy to use as review. The test mimics the questions from both classwork and homework.

I am looking for a parent helper in the science lab each Tuesday.  Please email if you are able to donate some of your very precious time to our class.  It will be fun for you and beneficial for the class and me in multiple ways.

A technology agreement was sent home with each child; please review it with your child, sign it and send it back. We will be reviewing the agreement in class and keeping the documents on hand to insure that all children comply with the guidelines.  As per Sister Kathleen, students may not use the technology if they have not signed and retuned a copy of the agreement.  Thank you for your diligence in returning it to me.

I think that is it for now... wishing everyone a peace filled week!

God bless the 911 victims and their families.

The special schedule for your children is as follows:

Monday: Physical Education
Wednesday: Music and Library - books will always be due on the Tuesday before...
Thursday: Art

We are scheduled for Spanish on Friday - that is contingent upon hiring a teacher and her/his availablity.

While the children wear their summer uniform they need only wear sneakers --  WHITE OR BLACK.  NO COLORS allowed on sneakers.

I want to remind you, also, that girls may not wear nail polish. If they wear earrings they must be STUD only. No hanging earrings are allowed.  No large or colorful hair accessaries are permitted.

Please check the homework calendar and the Superkids spelling words for this week.  I have the Backpack pages linked so that you can print them out.  The Backpack pages will be due on Thursday each week. Don't forget about the Reading Log -- it is due on Friday each week.

Please sign all homework.

It was nice to see many of you at the picnic on Friday evening.  Bentley,  Micaela and I enjoyed lots of love from your children!
