Twas the night before school started
when all through the town
the parents were cheering
it was a riotous sound.

By eight the kids were washed
and tucked into bed
when memories of homework
filled them with dread.

New pencils, new folders, new notebooks too,
new teachers, new friends, the anxiety grew.
The parents just giggled when they heard of this fright
and shouted upstairs-GO TO BED-IT'S A SCHOOL NIGHT!

Happy Summer!

I hope that all of you are enjoying these lazy days of summer!  I know I am, more than usual...I guess that comes from the joyful year we shared together.

I plan on walking on the Rail Trail on August 9th... the children and I planned a get-together before school let out. I realize you may be unable to be there... not a problem. Unless there is an unforeseen circumstance, I will be there at 10:00 a.m. with Bentley. We will take a walk for about an hour. I would love to share some summer sunshine and watch up with your busy lives. If you can come, email me so that I know who to contact should the unforeseen happen.

Thank you for your generous end of year gift and all the many joyful moments we shared throughout the year. I shall treasure them for ever.

I hope to see you  on August 9th.

GBWY 4 ever!

.... I write late at night, or early in the morning - depending on your sense of time!

First of all... Thursday (today) is picnic day - and dress down day - remember that the children can dress like a "SuperKid" if they choose to.   This is one of my favorite days... I hope you can all come and join us - a true "family" day.  It will be nice to see you and hear about your summer plans and reflect upon a year well traveled by our, soon to be, 3rd graders!  Look for us under "my" shady tree!

Secondly, check out the email about the "book" the children are writing. They have worked so hard on writing and illustrating; I'm proud of their hard work. I realize there is a cost involved, but it is shaping up to be a nice keepsake from second grade. The order will be placed once school ends and the book will arrive in the summer. Mrs. Zingaro is working overtime to help us get it put together and sent off to the publisher.  Please locate her email and send the money to school for the book today.

Lastly, just a reminder that the last day of school is Friday and the moving up ceremony will begin at 9:30 in the church.  The children will be dismissed from the gymnasium immediately following the ceremony. See you there!

Thank you... for the gifts of kindness, generosity, patience, mercy, and love with which you bestowed upon me throughout the year. I am most grateful for the gift of your children. They are amazing. Please don't ever hesitate to update me on any of their future accomplishments; I know there will be many.

God be with you, always and forever.

It is hard to believe that it is June already!  How fast these 180 days have passed!

I am so proud of these children - they have grown before my eyes!

The Remembrance Mass was a nice culmination to a year filled with learning and growing closer to God.  They represented our class with poise and confidence; I couldn't be more proud!

There are a few end of year events I wanted tor inform and remind you of...
  1. Thursday June 16th is our picnic day; Our Room Moms will be sending out a sign up genie - keep an eye out!
  2. Thursday June 16th is also going to be dress like a SUPERKID Day. Please don't go out of your way to create an elaborate "costume".  These are ordinary KIDS wearing ordinary clothing....
  3. Tuesday June 14th is our "Summer Birthday" celebration: all children with summer birthdays are being celebrated.  We are having a special snack for them all.
  4. Friday June 17th is our last day... the moving up ceremony is at 9:30 and dismissal is from the Gymnasium following the ceremony.

God Be With You, ALWAYS!

I am so proud of your children... They did a marvelous job on Saturday!  They received Jesus with such reverence, grace and beauty. .... And yes, I did shed a few tears.... They were all quite eager to ask me that on Monday!  Happy, proud tears, of course!

A reminder... Thursday is a NUT AWARD DAY - Sister Kathleen asks that we remind you about appropriate and neat attire. No sandals or flip flops. If they wear shorts, they have to be appropriate length, no tank tops, etc.

The Spring Concert is fast approaching... please see Sister's email with dress code details for the concert.

Good Afternoon!

It is almost the "Big Day!"  We are all so very excited.  As a reminder, we have Communion Practice tomorrow, Thursday, May 5th at 3:30 in the Church.  The practice is MANDATORY for all students receiving First Holy Communion on Saturday.

I will be staying in school and going to the practice at 3:30.  If you would like, your child can stay after school with me and I will bring them over to the church.  They may bring a change of clothes and a snack.  You will need to write a note giving permission.  You must pick up your child after practice at 4:30.  Please be prompt.  Sister Marie did say in her letter to you that you may sit in the back of the church during practice, if you choose to.  If you do not wish to allow your child to stay after school with me, then you must get them to the church by 3:30.

Thank you!

Good evening,

What wonderful spring weather we've experienced these last few days....

I have now posted the Superkids Unit 7 Backpack pages. I apologize for the delayed posting. This Friday the children will take the test for the Unit 7 week 1 words.

We have a lot to be excited about in 2nd grade!  First, this week, on Earth Day (Friday April 22) we will create terrariums and watch, first hand the water cycle in action!  The children and I are looking forward to this fun experience.

Monday is our class trip to Caramoor to learn about Chinese culture. The children can wear appropriate, out of uniform clothing. Please keep in mind that we are a Catholic school and wish to represent ourselves appropriately.  The children need a bag lunch on that day. There is no reason to send any money with them as there are no opportunities to make any purchases.

I will send home a note confirming these and any other details you will need to know.

Lastly, First Holy Communion is just around the corner.... I can hardly believe it is time.... where did it go?

They are ready....are you?

GBWY....always :-)

Good afternoon!

I can't remember.... what did the Ground Hog foretell?

A reminder:  the spelling test for this past week will be on Monday - due to the untimely snow last Monday.

There is only a month until the big day!  I'm sure you all have the information from Sister Marie and the Religious Education office.  There is practice for our class on Thursday May 5th at 3:30 p.m. in the church. It is important for all of the children receiving communion to be at that practice.
