ST. DENIS/ST. COLUMBA SCHOOL SECURITY PLAN

CODE RED PROCEDURES

THREAT CONDITION "5"

Updated March 26, 2003

Sister Anne Daniel, Principal, strongly recommends that parents listen to the radio each morning before sending your children to school.

In the event that the U.S. Government declares "Threat Condition 5," otherwise known as condition red or code red, St. Denis/ St. Columba School will take the following actions during all days that this condition remains in effect:

  • Our school will cancel all trips that would go beyond school boundaries. This action covers all school-sponsored or school-authorized trips including field trips, class trips, and sports events.
  • School will cancel playground recess.
  • School safety teams will implement contingency plans that include measures for securing the school building.
  • Schools will implement a lock-down which is a procedure used when there is an immediate and imminent threat to the school building population. School staff and students are secured in the rooms they are currently in and no one is allowed to leave until the situation has been resolved. This allows the school to secure the students and staff in place and protect any school visitors from immediate danger.
  • School will activate methods of communicating with parents that include emergency relay, using voice mail, and posting messages on our web site, www.stcolumba.net. This communication will depend on the means available at the time. This information will come as an official directive from the Government or the Archdiocese of New York. These messages will be posted on the Alert link as we receive them. You can get to other public school district websites by clicking on District Websites.
